We started Sussex Tech Repair because we were tired of seeing people across Sussex get overcharged for simple fixes, talked into buying new machines they didn't need, or left with no one local to call when something went wrong.
Based in Lewes, in the heart of East Sussex, we're an independent repair shop and tech support service that covers the whole county — from Brighton to Eastbourne, Uckfield to Haywards Heath, and everywhere in between.
We built this business around a few simple ideas. Be honest about what's wrong and what it'll cost. Explain things in plain English. Try to repair before recommending replacement. Why we care about right to repair
The UK generates over 1.5 million tonnes of electronic waste every year. Most of it doesn't need to be thrown away. A laptop with a cracked screen still has a perfectly good motherboard, memory, and storage inside. A PC that's running slowly usually just needs a clean and an SSD upgrade — not a trip to the recycling centre.
Manufacturing dominates a laptop’s climate impact — often on the order of ~200–300 kg CO₂e depending on the model. ADEME’s refurbished-IT work finds choosing refurbished over new avoids about 27 kg CO₂e and 127 kg of raw materials per year of use. We use iFixit guides and parts channels so repairs stay practical, not theoretical.
Lewes has been a Transition Town since 2007 — one of the first in the UK. The district council has declared a climate emergency and set a net-zero target of 2030. We share that ambition. Every device we repair is one less in landfill. Every refurbished laptop we sell is one fewer new machine that needs manufacturing.

When you do need something new, we give honest, impartial guidance. We're not a shop trying to shift stock — we recommend what fits your needs and your budget. We're also big advocates of refurbished machines and run a donation programme to give old laptops a second life. A professionally restored laptop with a new SSD and fresh Windows install performs just as well as new, at 40–60% of the cost.
